Topkapı Palace is absolutely stunning — a place where words fall short. Every courtyard, every room tells a story of empires, sultans, and centuries of grandeur. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply the magic of the past. That said, it’s definitely not a place you can fully explore in just one day. The scale is massive, and every corner deserves time. However, the museum organization inside could be much better. Long lines form in several sections, mainly due to poor crowd management and lack of clear directions. Also, there are very few resting areas inside, which can be tiring during long visits — especially for elderly guests or families with children. Still, the beauty and historical weight of Topkapı make it worth the effort. With some improvements in visitor services and flow, this place could offer an even more unforgettable experience.

This is a never to be missed travel destination if you are travelling to Istanbul. Even if you are staying for one day in Istanbul. No need to buy tickets in advance. Even though a lot of the sites and blogs tells you to do that. Tickets are fairly easily available at the entrance and also at the automatic kiosks. The security check appliance when not that long and only take couple of minutes to cross the gates. Once you enter, you will see lots of options to go around and check. My suggestions will be not to spend too much time in one spot and taking photos. Otherwise you will miss the other spots. 3 or 4 hours is not enough for Topkapi palace. You will need at least 6 hours. So, my recommendation is to start early like around 10:00 a.m. in the morning. You will feel hungry while moving around so make sure to take some food with you. It is allowed and you can eat it inside.

Good: A beautiful place to visit in Istanbul. There are many different exhibitions inside: jewelry, weapons, kitchenware. You will admire also many rooms with mosaic walls. In the holy reclics section they give you some clothes to cover up. Bad: the free audio guide is not working on your phone. The QR is invalid. Their audio guide doesn’t come with headphones. And I was expecting more numbered indicators in the palace to hear info about. Many rooms in the palace are left empty, no writing, no explanations and no artifacts to see. Also, there are no indicators to visit the palace in a certain order. You might miss on expositions if you are not careful.
