Discover the rich history and stunning architecture of Osaka Castle, a must-visit landmark in Japan. Learn about its significance, visitor information, and more.

Osaka Castle, or Osaka-jo, is one of Japan's most famous landmarks, renowned for its historical significance and stunning architecture. Located in Chūō-ku, Osaka, this castle is a symbol of the city and attracts millions of visitors each year.
Originally built in the late 16th century by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Osaka Castle played a crucial role in the unification of Japan. The castle has undergone numerous renovations and reconstructions over the centuries, particularly after being destroyed during the Siege of Osaka in the early 17th century.
The castle is famous for its impressive five-story main tower, which stands at 58 meters tall. The tower features a beautiful golden shachihoko (a mythical creature) on its roof, symbolizing prosperity and protection.
Visitors can explore the castle grounds, which are surrounded by a moat and lush gardens. The castle park is particularly beautiful during cherry blossom season, attracting photographers and nature lovers alike.
Inside the castle, there is a museum that showcases artifacts from the castle's history, including armor, weapons, and historical documents. The top floor offers panoramic views of Osaka city, making it a perfect spot for photography.
Osaka Castle is easily accessible via public transport. The nearest station is Osaka Business Park Station on the Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line. From there, it's a short walk to the castle grounds.
Osaka Castle is not just a historical site; it's a cultural treasure that offers insights into Japan's past. Whether you're a history buff, architecture enthusiast, or simply looking for a beautiful place to visit, Osaka Castle is a must-see destination in Japan.

Went in a Tuesday morning and bought tickets online. Entered quickly! It was crowded at the top, but I really enjoyed the views and the thoughtful museum displays. At the end I visited the movie theater which helped reinforce my understanding of the history of the castle. While you have to be patient, and arrive knowing that it’s a big attraction, I recommend Osaka castle for all thoughts who love history and also because the park is free and gorgeous as well!

A beautiful and iconic landmark in Osaka, with lovely castle grounds and gardens that are great for a stroll or photos — especially during cherry blossom season. The exterior of the castle is impressive, and there’s a peaceful park around it to relax in. However, I wouldn’t recommend coming on a hot day — there’s a lot of walking and limited shade. Inside the main tower is a museum with historical exhibits, but it’s quite different from what I expected. It feels more like a modern museum than a traditional preserved castle. I liked the short theater show downstairs, but overall I probably wouldn’t recommend buying a ticket to go inside. If you’re visiting with a baby or pram, be aware that strollers aren’t allowed inside — you’ll need to leave them in a storage area before heading up the stairs on the right side. There are some elevators, but parts of the route require using stairs, and the way down is stairs only. Still worth visiting for the views from the outside and the castle park, but better enjoyed on a cooler day.

Amazing place to visit! The castle is about 6 floors filled with history. Around the castle enjoy a nice walk in the park. Worth buying the ticket, no big queues and fast service. There’s a souvenir shop and a sweet shop. You can spend the whole day there between the castle, the park, the views… simply lovely place for a day in Osaka
